Foundations: Striped Tee + White Denim

May 20, 2025

I would normally complain about the fact that it’s still 60-degrees in the Pacific Northwest. But since the cause appears to be warm weather near Iceland, I’ve decided to embrace the cold and wear one of my favorite outfits: a striped tee and white denim. Here’s how to style it.

The Foundation // It’s a striped tee, because everybody has that, and white jeans, because everyone should have that. I have abandoned skinny jeans to a drawer in my dresser, and I am enamored with wide leg styles like these from Madewell (also in petite/tall). I wear these jeans from Spanx.

Looking for something a little slimmer? Banana Republic has a straight style that a generous leg width without being wide. Plus-size? Land’s End runs up to 26W.

Look No. One // A simple jean jacket will always be a classic, but if you’re looking to upgrade, look for a more relaxed style this summer. It’s what the It Girls are wearing.

This option, is an Acid Wash Jean Jacket from Tuckernuck. Need a more affordable option? For a barn jacket, hit this Free People option. Looking for something prettier? This embroidered jacket is cool.

To this look, I added these Seena sneaker with scallop details in light neutrals. The lacy edges and low profile make them perfect to wear with dresses this summer. For a bag, I chose this Antik Kraft bag with a cool shape and chic details. It comes in three colors.

For the styling, I like this textured hoops from Quince. They’re a great mid-size. I would wear my (usually second day) hair up in one of these stylish gold pins. Here is a tutorial on how to wear it.

Look No. Two // If you don’t need a top layer, adding a chic silk scarf in a statement color can give you that finished, styled look. Whether you have an affordable pick from Amazon, a vintage choice from Grandma’s closet, or a second hand designer piece, a silk scarf just says, “She gets it.” Here’s some Pinterest inspo for how to wear it.

To make this look effortlessly casual, I added this woven macrame bag from Gap (one of the hot bags of the summer). For the shoes, I selected these sophisticated, but relaxed, slides from Margaux. They’re a little spendy, but you will own these in 10 years (resoled, of course). If you want an Hermes Oran, these are the stand in. Add in a cool sunglasses and a simple beaded bracelet set, and you’re done.

With a scarf, I always wear my hair up. I’ve shared it 1,000 times, but this tutorial is my favorite. If you wear a red scarf and want more punch, kick in a red lip from a French brand.

Feel like you still need a topper? Try a slightly oversized button-up shirt in navy stripe with the sleeves rolled up.

Look No. Three // Need to wear this combo to work? Add this collared swing jacket from Boden. It gives blazer vibes in a less staid option. If you want a more relaxed option, don’t miss this cardigan jacket from Quince.

For a summer shoe, this woven Mary Jane from Boden is the pick. Closed toe (technically) with a breezy style, it’s a bridge between a sandal and a flat. So if you need a summer shoe for a professional office, this is it. Need a pick under-$75? Try this pick from Cushionnaire.

For this outfit, you need elegant accessories. I chose a pearl slightly-oversized earring from Heaven Mayhem (the cool girl brand) and a coordinating oval watch. Bracelet watches are back, and this one would make a nice stack with other pieces. And finish the look with this sleek, oh-so-Parisian bag from Manseur Gavriel. For a $100 option, try this bag from J.W. Pei.

For styling, I would wear my hair half-up. For the makeup, I would keep it subtle, maybe a kiss of sheer red on the lips.
